Rhome Community Library

In Memory of Bill Childress

Remembering Bill -- Our Rhome Historian and Library Past President who passed away March 8, 2017.

We will miss our Bill in many, many ways. He was an avid supporter of the Rhome Public Library and started the Community Potluck group that meets for lunch on the first Friday of every month.

Bill had many accomplishments, but his passion and great joy was the pictorial history of Rhome that is displayed in our library. This archive of more than sixty binders containing thousands of pictures of people, places and things in Rhome and the surrounding communities is always available for all to enjoy. History and genealogy buffs are sure to appreciate this outstanding labor of love.

As stated in his obituary (Wise County Messenger, March 11, 2017), Bill was never afraid to speak up and defend the neglected and abused, the homeless, or the hurting. Bill loved Rhome and worked fervently to see it grow into a harmonious place where families could raise their children in safety and community. He encouraged the citizens to have pride in their heritage and to honor those who came before them. His special passion was the pictorial history he was developing at the Rhome Library.
